Until about 1850 there was an intensive competition and large participation at the 'balverkaatsersdag', that was yearly organized at the playing field, just outside the Eastern Gate of the city of Franeker. After that year the situation of this great day worsened, caused by the business interests of the innkeepers and also by coarsening of language and style. When in 1853 the match was at its lowest ebb, a 'board' consisting of 5 notables from the city of Franeker decided to take up the orga-nization of this yearly and within living memory existing match and to lift it up to an event based upon idealistic and non commercial values. Right from the beginning the PC day was successful and gradually became a festal great day again.
Since its establishment the Permanent Committee still consists of 5 members and is still operating fully independent. Bases on this strong foundation and maintaining loyal to the valuable traditions and to the principles of her founders, the Permanent Committee will keep the main focus on the ancient sport, not influenced by commerce or other interests. The committee, that knew only 8 presidents and totally 43 members since her establishment in 1853, feels it as her special responsibility to pass on this old great day, where old traditions, culture and sports are experienced as a whole, inviolated to the next generations.
